These are little, paper reading books that come in little box. They are bound with staples and have held up well for my daughter. The illustrations are simple line drawings--quite upbeat. They're perfect for that time when new readers have learned all their consonants and the short vowels, but you are having a hard time finding books for them to read. Trying to find readers for that period when children can read, but get easily discouraged, is not at all easy. These books can give that feeling of success to newer readers. Eight pages with short-vowel-sound words make for easy reading. They get progressively harder as your child works through the series of 12 books. Set 1 contains all consonants (except q) along with the short vowels. Once the first set is finished, your child can go on to Set 2, then Set 3.
Note: This review was written for the older versions of Bob Books. I'm not sure about which sets cover the short-vowel sounds and long-vowel sounds. But I'm sure these new sets are every bit as good as the older sets; I recommend them without any hesitation. Our Bob Books are out on loan right now, being enjoyed by a young reader. Bob Books really are special; I'm saving our sets for our grandkids.
